2016 Putnam Mathematical Competition Results
A total of 4,164 students from 568 colleges and universities in Canada and the United States participated in the competition this year. Of these 4,164 participants, 1901 received scores of 0, 1,065 received scores between 1 and 10 and 97 received scores of 11. Thus, Grace, did better than 71.2% of students taking the exam and at least as as as 73.6% of students taking the exam. Andrew Rowe (2006) still holds the record for the highest percentile rank, doing better than 76.2% of students taking the exam and at least as well as 82.7% of students taking the exam.
The year's top 5 teams were: 1. Carnegie Mellon, 2. Princeton, 3. Harvard, 4. MIT and 5. Stanford. Thank you to all of you who participated in this year's exam, and I hope those of you who were not declared ineligible upon graduation in May will consider participating again, next year.
2017 MAA Leo Schneider Mathematics Competition
The 2017 MAA Leo Schneider Mathematics Competition Results are in. There were 21 teams who competed with the Newton's 2nd Team (Grace McCourt, Emily Law and Michael Woode) finishing in 7th place with 38 points, the Alge-Bros (Kyle Puhl, Aaron Arnold and Bret Romanzak) finishing in 11th place with 18 points and the Inte-girls (Ashlyn Smith, Emily Martin and Jessica Shrider) finishing in 12th place with 17 points. Comparing AU results to top teams from other universities, Ohio Northern University, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University and Baldwin Wallace University had higher scoring teams, while Newton's 2nd Team beat the top teams from Marietta College, Sinclair Community College, Malone University and the University of Findlay.
